If you haven’t heard of this game then let me just explain what it is. Demon Souls is a Action RPG for the Playstation 3. You’re the last hope for the world full of demons that you have to vanquish throughout the game which includes two different forms of life for the player; your living body and your soul form. Dying in the game in your normal body sends you to either the Nexus (a sort of base camp) or the beginning of the stage in your soul form. To get your body back you either have to use items or kill arch-demons at the ends of stages. However, the game is really about taking it slow and fighting enemies one on one and you might find yourself dying quite a lot. Each time you die you will lose all of the souls that you collect throughout the level, but the good news is if you make it back to where you died you can pick them back up again! But all the enemies respawn and you have to fight your way back to the same spot, I guess the extra souls are a nice bonus as you fight to collect the others you lost.
I’ve had the game for a while, but the first time I played it I found it so hard that I just left the game alone for a long time. Yesterday I picked up the game again and made my first mage. It was still very hard to play, having to shield all the time and counter the attacks of the enemies as a completely different style of play than I’m use to, but saying that, when everything worked out it was amazing. I really enjoyed how hard the game is, making everything that you achieve that much sweeter. The first boss was very interesting to fight, having to hide behind the pillars and slowly wear it down while dodging its attacks. After spend some time dying and running back to collect the souls I’d lost, finally killing the boss and moving on really felt like an achievement that had really been worked for, something that hard to find in a lot of games today.
Really enjoying this game and would recommend it to others that like a challenge and don’t mind replaying the same area over and over and over and over again. (Depending how good you are…)
