We talk about diet, exercise, medical breakthroughs and anything that affects our lives when it comes to our health, except sleep. The need for sleep will vary person to person and the big question is, how much do we need. There are some individuals that can come home from work in the afternoon and take a 2 hour nap and get up and clean house, or whatever it is they need do and go back to bed around one in the morning and get up at five and get ready for work.
To many of us that little cat nape would cause tossing and turning once we got back in bed.
Then we have the seven to eight hour needed sleep to function the next day. Another group of us are the ones that only sleep about two to three hours and hit the bathroom and another two to three hours or less and we are awake again. This group is not getting the proper sleep they need and should consult a doctor. The one thing that has been studied is that we need at least six hours of uninterrupted sleep. Some people find themselves getting sleepy around two or three in the afternoon which indicates lack of a good night’s sleep. It is suggested that to get a good night’s rest is to turn off lights, dark room, and turn off the T.V. Most feel the T.V. helps them to fall asleep but it also wakes them up. If there is a timer on the T.V. try that and see if it helps. If it’s a bathroom problem you may not want to drink anything especially with caffeine two hours before bed.
